As a Surgical Technologist, you will function as a member of the surgery team in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities before, during, and after surgery. You will handle the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. You understand the procedure being performed and anticipate the needs of the surgeon, ensuring quality patient care during the operative procedure and maintaining the sterile field.

Essential Functions:
- Performs interventions, skills, and procedures consistent with accepted standards of surgical practice, policies and procedures in the surgical suite, including preparing the Operating Room, providing patient safety and comfort measures, maintaining asepsis, and ensuring fluid balance and skin integrity.
- Handles unanticipated events and crisis situations professionally, alert to potential problems.
- Performs technical procedures in a safe, effective, efficient, legal, and professional manner.
- Utilizes organizational assets appropriately, managing room and supplies to minimize waste.
- Establishes, maintains, and monitors the surgical environment to reduce infection risk through proper sterilization and disinfection procedures.
- Assists in other roles to maintain quality and reduce costs.
- Consistently performs appropriate counts per OR policy.
- Supports the Institution by operating efficiently and projecting a positive community image.
- Addresses situations of concern and follows through with appropriate interventions.
- Ensures all required elements are in place for efficient completion of procedures.

Additional Requirements:
Required:
Rapid City & Spearfish Markets:
- Education: Associate in a Healthcare related field OR Surgical Technician Certificate from an accredited program (within 12 months of hire)
- Work Experience: 2+ years cardiovascular experience (for Rapid City Market CV Team)
Monument Health Orthopedic Specialty Hospital:
- Education: High School Diploma/GED Equivalent AND completion of a Registered Surgical Apprenticeship Program
- Certification: Surgical Tech Certified (ST-C) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or Surgical Technician Certificate from an accredited program (within 12 months of hire)
Preferred:
- Work Experience: 1+ years of Surgical Technologist Experience; 1+ years of Healthcare Experience
- Certification: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - various recognized organizations
Physical Requirements: Heavy work - exerting up to 25 pounds of force constantly, up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 100 pounds occasionally. Possible exposure to radiation and contaminated needles. Ability to work designated shift lengths, including night shifts.
